"There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks.  Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story." ~Linda Hogan

Alice Kelley - Fractal Artist

fractals - artist - finding faces fractal art

Alice's Fractal History

Alice discovered fractals in 1995, and, at first, began collecting other artist's fractals.  In describing her intrigue with fractals she said, "I was excited by their abstract
beauty, and the fact that such gorgeous pictures are
created by math alone.  Since fractals are actually
computer versions of natural fractal phenomena like
coastlines, plant shapes, and weather patterns, they
seem to resonate with me somehow, to not appear
artificial.

"I began making fractals myself a year later, and found
that I am able to manipulate and color fractal images
in an intuitive manner. Since for a long time fractals
were solely the realm of mathematicians, they used to
be very "mathy"  looking, randomly colored, and only
seen in textbooks, and it's just in the last few years
that programs have been written that are accessible to
non-academics.  Now the more right-brained among us can
apply our skills to the exploration of
equations and the application of color.

"Each fractal starts out as chaos, and I find the
pattern in it, and that pleases me. Perhaps it's a
metaphor. So much of life and the universe is chaos,
and I can take a tiny part of it and make beauty."
