"A slavish concern for the composition of words is the sign of a bankrupt intellect. Be gone, odious wasp! You smell of decayed syllables." -Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth

I have been a journal keeper since 1990.  Most of my journals are simple ninety-nine cent notebooks, while a few (most of which were gifts, especially from my mom) are creative, hardcover notebooks.  Nonetheless, what a journal is made of is always less important than what thoughts and expressions are put in it.  As long as you have bounded paper, a writing utensil and desire, you have the potential for a great journal!

All of my traditional journals are based upon the simple practice of autography and the simple technologies of paper and pencil.  Would you believe, these simple things have taught me some worthwhile lessons? Sometimes, when I'm troubled, I write, usually a poem, in my journal.  When I do this, the dark and ominous clouds hanging over me inevitably disappear.  It is a glorious experience and has always amazed me that such a simple technique works so well.  Granted, sometimes it may take a while to think through and express the issues or events that trouble me, but once I do, it is like poison leaving my body and new life filling to my soul.

In contrast, this online journal doesn't develop out of my troubles, but rather out of my art and interests in life.  Although sharing the art and information within does have a cathartic value, this is not my main purpose.  Rather my main purpose is to en-courage you with interesting, and maybe even inspiring, imagery and ideas.
