"There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story." ~Linda Hogan

Powder Watercolor Painting,, 24" x 18"
© Gregory Hochman, 1999 - current
This painting celebrates the joy of autumn leaves and seeks to capture the animated forms of branches and trunk while the wind is blowing with gusto on a sunny autumn day. In this painting, the branches display outstanding flexibility and strength while the colors show us energy and vitality.
Watching a tree react and move with the wind is a beautiful experience. The dance of the branches and leaves is a beautiful living art. The fluttering and shimmering of leaves in sunlight is a beautiful sight.
The movement of a tree is especially evident when it is windy. Every branch moves in relationship to every other branch. The tree's branches and leaves do not just randomly move when the wind blows. Rather they move in a coordinated fashion. It certainly is a type of dance and it is also the trees ability to adapt to its conditions and weather. It is all living art.
Autumn Tree was begun in 1999 along with Stormy Weather Tree & Starry Tree. Together the three were intended to form a set. Currently, Starry Tree & Stormy Weather Tree are in my care, but Autumn Tree was given to my sister and brother-in-law as part of their wedding gift.
