Live DyesLive-dyeing is a technique a friend and I discovered while I was in college. The main idea of a Live-Dye is to see a form that can be drawn out of a tie-dye pattern. A Live-Dye© is a drawing (or painting) on a tie-dye, which brings out a shape or form already in the tie-dye.
The creative process of making a live-dye gives insight into the artist's visual vocabulary. That is to say, what one sees in the tie-dye is what one consciously or unconsciously thinks about. Like all drawing and painting making a live-dye is a live process - a process that requires active, attentive thinking and accurate execution. If the accuracy of the drawing is not present, then the live-dye won't be very lively. Live-dyeing adds another dimension and challenge to tie-dyeing.
Paintings - made with the same paints used in the above tie dyes |
