Painting Lessons from Dyeing
How Dyeing gave Life to me I began watercolor painting in my third year of college, around 1993. At this time I had been making tie-dyes for a couple of years, which helped train me for painting; many tie-dye skills, such as color mixing, composition and pattern recognition are applicable to painting. Around 1994 I began making fabric paintings upon hand dyed fabrics, which led to my first commissions. Dyeing and fabric painting were stepping stones that led me to painting. Ergo, for me, dyeing gave life to painting. ~GH
